Final piece.

I worked on acetate, merely just testing out different materials and decided that i rather liked the effect. This helped me decide what i want to do for my final piece. After discovering Seth Clark, i knew i wanted to combine the style of Jeffrey Fulvimari...

Robert Rauschenberg...

And Seth Clark.

I decided i could do this by using collage, both Seth and Robert had this style. I would then paint over the top of the collage using watercolour then applying sharpie and fine liner. I became a fan of masking fluid, not for its purpose but for the effect it gave once left on, it peeled away slightly and this gave a minor decaying look. I would then draw using pencil a very detailed drawing of a person. I took sample photos of myself. I chose to present myself well but have an expression of fakeness. I gave a slight smile; this was to stay with the theme broken home.

The idea of hiding something. This would then be placed in a shadow bow frame that i am able to place
items inside, allowing me to create 3D collage. I have then decided to paint on acetate, using the same watercolour and pen. This will give the broken home something to hide behind. On acetate i will create what seems a perfect picture and then place on top of my frame. I have created a mock up and sketches.

Seth Clark.

"My work focuses on deteriorating architecture. I see an inherent honesty in the face of my subject. These man-made structures, designed to be huge forces of permanence, are now collapsing in on themselves. Among all of the clutter—the shards of wood and layers of rubble—there remains a gentle resolve. It is as if the buildings were content with their circumstance. As I work, I study these structures incessantly. They are on the brink of ruin, yet appear dignified in their state. Something very energized and present is trying to escape out of a slow history of abandonment."

I discovered this artist when i decided i would create the theme of "Broken home". I decided this style of work was similar to my artist but also differed, the collage links well to another artist i have studied Robert Rauschenberg, who works with layering piece and works with collage. I thought this style of work showed "Spill.drop.break" because it was broken up and distressed and showed decay, but was still pretty, as if the piece was trying to hide something. "Broken home." Isn't always obvious in some cases and these pieces reflect that.

Primary research: Broken home.

I showed some primary research taking images of houses and deciding this is what i would use to create my final piece.

...

I tested my broken home idea using firstly a scene of once again a street using watercolour but then moved on to a row of houses replacing paint with soft pastel to see how this would look.

...

After this i used a canvas to present my work, i did a literal copy. I got this image from my inspirations page just floating about the internet. I decided ultimately the idea and style was successful and moved on to thoughts of my final piece.

The beginning of my final piece.

After trial and improvement methods i began to consider thoughts of a final piece and a theme to it. After looking through inspirations and style of my artist and his illustrated work i decided on the theme "Broken home". I also got inspiration from my own work- my introduction page with the different styles of doors. I decided to work in a style i had already discovered. This was taking watercolour and applying this firstly to my material and shortly after using sharpie or fine liner to illustrate. I attempted a scene of a street,  including houses and buildings. I liked the idea and the thought behind it. Broken home is not always obvious and certain people have certain problems that is not always addressed, i have chosen to show this in my work and create a final piece based on this message.

Tests.

Spill.Drop.Break.

I took the theme of my project literally and chose to take a canvas and "Spill" it "Drop" it "Break" it. This was simple and yet sometimes the most uncreative thoughts are inspiring.

Wreck this journal.

To open my thoughts and ideas i decided to try out a wreck this journal, giving me creativity and inspiration and the thought to be wild when creating art.

Paint, Balloons and a Sharp Tool.

Spill, Drop, Break. There is a famous scene created in The Princess Diaries. Both the mother and daughter throw darts at a canvas filled with balloons that contain paint, I decided that I would try it out.
